Plants
The West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand has a diverse range of plants that are found there. Some of them are widespread, being found in other places around New Zealand, Australasia or the Pacific while some are confined to just the South Island or the Southern Alps. A small number are endemic to the West Coast or parts of the Southern Alps, being found nowhere else.
The range of habitats in which plants are found is huge, ranging from high in the mountains and alpine screes, alpine and subalpine herblands, forests, open scrublands, swamplands, coastal cliffs and beaches.
Search by the main part of a name. Don’t use words or numerals under 3 characters long, e.g. Sea Emerald is fine, Te Aroha is not but a search for just Aroha will find it. Galatea II won’t work but just Galatea will find it.
