Just as an artist has a palette of colours he uses to paint his picture so a photographer should have a palette for his webpage. This is a set of colours that go harmoniously together and are used on the page to provide a pleasing effect. There are various ways of choosing the colours for a palette and a Google search will bring up plenty of choices. Another way, and the way I have chosen, is to choose an image that is fairly typical of the photographer’s work and select colours form that photo. The colours are used in the page background, text, graphics and headers.

My palette I have called the Mahinapua Palette because the colours are picked from a photo of Lake Mahinapua, a small inland lake south of Hokitika on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand.
