West Coast in the Rain
It rains a lot on the West Coast, it really does. Coasters are sometimes referred to as having webbed feet and many a joke is made about the rain. New Zealand’s highest mountain, Aoraki-Mount Cook, can be seen from most places near the coastline. The saying goes that if you can see Aoraki that means it’s going to rain – if you can’t see Aoraki that means it’s already raining. Jokes aside though, it’s the rain that makes the West Coast the beautiful place that it is. Without that precipitation that falls on us when the clouds hit the Southern Alps we would not have the snow-covered mountains, the mirror-like lakes, the beautiful wild rivers and the lush forests that characterise the Coast. In amongst the wet days there are enough fine days when the beauty of that scenery can be seen and enjoyed.
In my galleries of West Coast scenery you will see much of the beauty I have described above. What I hope to show in this gallery is that even when the rain is falling there is beauty to be found.
Search by the main part of a name. Don’t use words or numerals under 3 characters long, e.g. Sea Emerald is fine, Te Aroha is not but a search for just Aroha will find it. Galatea II won’t work but just Galatea will find it.
